Levels

Students are grouped into five levels based on their rank (represented by belt color).

  • White Belt/No Belt
  • Beginner: Yellow, Orange & Green Belts
  • Intermediate: Purple, Blue & Blue w/Brown Stripe Belts
  • Advanced: Brown, 2nd Red & 1st Red Belts
  • Black Belt: Deputy Black, 1st Dan, 2nd Dan, 3rd Dan, 4th Dan, etc.

Rotating Curriculum

The curriculum rotates every 2 months. During each 2-month period, training will focus on one specific form and breaking technique at each level (beginner, intermediate, advanced). Rank (belt color) is not associated with one particular form and breaking technique, so all students at each level will learn, practice and test on the same skills regardless of their rank. A total of three forms and breaking techniques are covered at each level.

Stripe System: Readiness for Testing

The Stripe System shows a student's progress and readiness for promotion testing to the next belt level. Each student must earn four stripes in order to test at the next upcoming Color Belt Promotion Test. Stripes: Green=Form, Blue=Breaking Technique, White=Self-Defense, Black=Ready to Test confirmation from Master Instructor. When the student has earned three stripes (green, blue, white), s/he may pick up the Test Application at the Front Desk. LCTA Staff will check for the black stripe when the test form and fee are returned. Students must have their black stripes when they return the form in order to test at the next upcoming Promotion Test.

Color Belt Promotion Tests

Promotion tests are held every 2 months, at the end of each training period. When a student passes one promotion test they will move up in rank (example: from yellow belt to orange belt). After a student has passed three promotion tests covering all the forms and breaking techniques from their current level they will graduate to the next level (example: beginner to intermediate). The order of the forms/breaking techniques does not matter, only that the student has covered all three at his/her level. In order to graduate to the next level (example: intermediate to advanced) the student must know all three forms taught at his/her current level.
